We started building Adirondack chairs because we wanted some for our own garden and nobody in the UK made them the way we wanted. Then our neighbours and friends saw them and wanted some for themselves. And thus Adirondack Outdoors came into being
The whole thing started in the garage at home and grew from there. We have now built many thousands of chairs and other items of outdoor furniture and although things are a bit different from the way they were in the garage we still try and build every piece as though it was going to a friend or neighbours garden.
We make all our furniture ourselves, here in the UK. There are no imported kits and no middlemen. We buy good quality timber from reputable UK suppliers. We then cut, shape and finish every piece ourselves. This process means that we inspect and check each piece several times in the process of building your furniture. We know that selecting the best timber is how we can offer the best quality furniture.
All the timbers that we use are naturally durable. This means that they will give a long service life without the need for any chemical treatments or protections. Iroko and Oak are about the same in durability and you can expect either to have a useful life of 15-20 years. Western Red Cedar is a little less durable but should still give about 10 years of service.
We use good quality stainless steel fittings throughout. This ensures that the joints stay firm and stable for as long as possible and minimises the kind of staining that cheaper coated steel fittings can cause. Where glue is needed we use top quality waterproof outdoor adhesives, again helping to maximise the lifespan of your furniture.
